Attaching and configuring a new serial device is a little simpler than with a fingerprint scanner.
1. Attach the serial device to an available port, and referring to the product literature for the scanner, ensure the item is configured correctly (with respect to port number, speed, parity, stop bits, etc).
NOTE: Using a program such as windows terminal can help in ensuring the scanner is operating correctly, once you get to the point that a scanned code appears in the terminal window then you are ready to configure it in Martial Class™. See your scanner device product literature for more information on how to attach and configure your scanner).
2. Configure the device in Martial Class™ by setting it up using the Options dialog.
This allows you to start using the scanner in Martial Class™. By default it will not be scheduled for marking attendance in any classes, to learn how to set this up, read the next section Attaching Scanners to a Class.
