Scanning considerations

Being aware of the following points may assist in making your scanning work smoothly:

1.Registration of fingerprints requires 3 sample scans

2.When registering other forms of id, you may need to scan several times, when the same value is read a reasonable number of times (to be confident it was recorded correctly) then the registration sequence will complete. This is typically 2 scans if you have a good reader the item being scanned is in good condition. It could be more if the card or barcode has deteriorated.

3.Fingerprint scanning is usually highly accurate (if using a good scanner), magnetic strips and barcode scanning can vary in accuracy.

4.If you experience trouble scanning an item with a swipe reader, particularly with barcodes, try slowing down the scan. Barcode readers tend to operate better if they are swiped slower.

5.When printing your own barcodes, stick to larger fonts (14 or 18 point) to ensure hardware readability.

6.When associating a new scannable ID with either a student or a stock item, It's a good idea to first scan the item, or type in the code, and see if Full Contact™ matches it in the database. Otherwise, if you register the same item against more than one member and/or stock item at a time, it may not be predictable which item will match when it is scanned.
