STEP 1: Selecting Data
Top  Previous  Next

For most reports, you will need to specify how Martial Class™ should select the data for your report, otherwise Martial Class will include ALL data).

In the Report Editor Window, you will need to add at least one Data Extract Instruction.

Use the right-click menu on the Data Extract List on the left of the window:

Then select the Data Selection tab and use the interface to build your query.

This interface has been constructed with an internal representation of the Martial Class™ database meaning you don't typically need to know much about programming to generate simple reports, all you need to do is determine what data you are interested in obtaining. HOWEVER! If you have not done something like this before, it is highly advisable to contact a computing professional to help you.

To add or remove a field
from your formula, click on the number at the beginning of the line and select from the popup menu.

To Change the field for selection, click on the field name and select the new field from the pop-up menu.

NOTE: The selection interface for creating reports is a full system in it's own right. There is a certain amount of knowledge assumed of people working with this interface, such as a basic understanding of how to create selection queries using logical constructs such as AND and OR.

The clip0097 checkbox to the side of each line tells Martial Class™ whether or not that criteria should be included in the data extract. This can be used, for example, by creating a report with a few different runtime selectable options. You would create all the criteria, and then use the clip0097 Prompt for Values to allow the person running the report to select which criteria need to be included.

See Report Fields for more detailed information on each field used in creating the selection criteria.
