The final topic covered in this QuickStart guide is how to manually record attendance.
Full Contact™ is a separate program provided with Martial Class™ that monitors and accepts input from keyboard, serial interface, and USB devices for incoming data, and you can use this to take attendance via magnetic strip and barcoded cards, membership numbers or passwords being typed, and fingerprint scanners. For more information on this capability please refer to the section in the manual dedicated to this topic.
This QuickStart Guide only covers a few ways to manually attend students to classes. You will need to do this if you do not use Full Contact™ for attendance marking, or if you want to enter historical information, or alter attendance if your records need updating.
There are basically two ways to attend students to a class using the Martial Class™ interface, through drag-drop™ and using the attendance checkbox, both use the Attendance Window, accessible from the Windows menu.
1) Drag and Drop attendance recording.
This method is used in a few instances, and it is the fastest way to attend a group of people.
You start by selecting a handful of students in a different window (this can be another attendance window, a student browser, or events window). Then you drag-drop the students onto the attendance window. If a class time is not selected in that window then the Class Time Selection dialog will be displayed, enabling you to select the intended destination class for the students.
Additionally, if you need to manually attend students, ie as students from a different venue, or students that are not currently active in your browser window, then you can locate them using the appropriate search or display settings, then drag and drop them onto the attendance window.
TIP: You can also use the show inactive students toggle button on the attendance window toolbar to display all students for that venue and then click on their checkboxes.
2) Checkbox attendance recording.
Once a student appears in the class attendance window, you can simply click on checkboxes to attend/remove the student from that class at any time in the month displayed. Martial Class™ waits for a small amount of time before updating other windows if you do this (a second or two), in case you are clicking a few checkboxes. This avoids superfluous updates of the window and keeps the system response much faster.
