Why shouldn't I use a web based service?

Can you afford to have all your data in a different state? Or even a different country? 98% of the people coming in your door are people that interact with you regularly, can you afford to turn them away if your service provider fails? What happens if you take a laptop to a school hall to take a class? Will you always be on the internet?

There are certain advantages to centralizing your data, but for the majority of operators the consequences of a failure or slow connection are far greater considerations. Does Wal*marts run internet based cash registers? Imagine what would happen if they did and the internet connection failed...
